I'm Thinking of an Animal...

So tonight between Ellie's bath time and bedtime, we went for a ride in the car. During the trip, she asked if we could play the "I'm Thinking of an Animal" game. These may be my all-time favorite Ellie-isms.

#302-
El: "I'm thinking of an animal......uuummm.....it has no legs, no nose, no restaurants, no lights, no grass, no stripes, it's not a snake or a giraffe or an elephant or a zebra or a tiger because we already talked about those."
Me: "Oh wow....um...is it a skink?"
El: "HA! No it's not a stink! Those spray you and they smell yuuuuucky! That's embarrassing..."

#303-
Me: "I'm thinking of an animal....that's LOOOUUUD and swings around on trees and has looong arms."
El: "...a Cerulla?"
Me: "......................what's a Cerulla?"
El: "You know, a Cerulla. CER-UL-LA. It's like a monkey except it's not loud and it doesn't swing on trees."

#304-
Dad: "...What about a Howler monkey?"
El: "Noooo! I don't like Howling monkeys. They're too loud."
Me: "Why don't you like them?"
El: "I just dont ok?"
Dad: "They sound like this: AAAOOOOOOOO!"
El: "Stop! You're scaring me!"

#305
El: "I'm thinking of an animal that has ears and a nose."
Dad: "......every animal has ears and a nose. Can you give me another hint?"
El: "Just think about it, ok?!"

Daily Ellie-ism

Ellie-ism #301-
El: "Don't hold kevy's hand, Les!!"
Me: "But why El? I love him so I want to hold his hand!"
El: "Just stop it! You're making me grumpy. Can you put on my favorite song?"

Who is Ellie?

Ellie-ism. The word is becoming a common one in my household. How could it not? She's the smartest, funniest, sassiest, shake-my-head-in-amazement four year old I know. But let me start at the beginning.

I asked Elease Chastain to tell me when she was born and how she's grown up. This is our interview:

When were you born?
"On August 17."
Who all was there?
"Aunt Kirsten was there, and also Sydney (because I'm her cousin when I was a baby). Also nanny and pops and mommom and poppop and lorelia and eden."
What was your favorite thing to do when you were a baby?
"Crawl. I also cried. I also ate. I also drank."
What was your favorite toy when you were a baby?
"My froggy bouncey seat."
What was your favorite thing to do when you were 2?
"Play with my sisters. We went camping."
What was your favorite birthday?
"The tinker bell birthday with cookies."
What was your favorite thing to do now that you're four?
"Work and rake leaves and help and clean up and have a snack."
What are your favorite books to read?
"Um Amelia Bedelia and Little Rabbit Foo Foo."
What is your favorite TV show?
"Wonder Pets!"
What is your favorite movie?
"Beauty and the Beast."
What is your favorite season, fall or summer?
"I like summer the best because we get to go in the pool."
If your friend were going to school for the first time, how would you encourage them:
"I would say 'bye'."

And there you have it folks. Ellie's life in a nutshell.

Past Ellie-ism...

Ellie-ism #289-

El: "that's a pretty picture. Was I there?"
[She was referring to my desktop background of sunrise off Rhode Island. There is a fishing boat near the horizon.]
Me: "No this is when i went to the beach with
Kevin."
El: "Oh...that's a ship. Are their pirates on that ship?"
Me: "No, there aren't any pirates on that ship."
El: "Oh. Ok. [handing me two AA batteries] Well here are two pirates for you."

Ellie-ism #290-
El: "I don't like those monkeys. I'm not going to look at them."
Me: "Why don't you like them? They're so cute!"
El: "I just don't like them! They're too loud!"
Me: "Why don't you like the noise they make? Why does that scare you?"
El: "Lets just not talk about it, ok? Besides, I want to go see the pig."

Ellie-ism #291-
El: "I'm ready for naps I'm ready for naps I'm ready for naps I'm ready for naps I'm ready for naps I'm ready for naps..."

Ellie-ism #292-
El: "Mom. mom. Mooooom"
Mom: [back to ellie, washing dishes] "What el?"
El: "Mom! Mom look! Mom, look at my face!"

Ellie-ism #293-
singing to the puppies when they cried. When she sits in their big box i can't see her, i can only hear her voice floating over from the corner in the midst of tiny yelps

Ellie-ism #294-
10:05pm on Sunday night. I walked into the living room and saw the top of her head behind the blanket chest.
Me: "What are you doing El?"
El: "Oh i'm just hiding from mom."
Me: "Why are you hiding from mom?"
El: "Well because I don't want to go to bed."

Ellie-ism #295-
We went to chick-fil-a for lunch and ellie got an ice cream cone. She was so cold she didn't even want to play on the playground again after we ate. When we left chick-fil-a and got in the car, she said "Mom, it's so warm in here. Can you not turn the hot off?"

Ellie-ism #296-
As heard from my downstairs apartment:
Ellie as Christina: trying to play the wooden flute "How did you like it mom?"
Ellie as Mom: "Christina that was beautiful! Play some more!"
Ellie as Christina: "Thank you mom! Thank you thank you! Thank you everyone! I'll play some more!"

Ellie-ism #297-
El: "Mom who all is coming over tonight?"
Mom: "Well I don't think Priest is coming."
El: "No mom, he's not coming. Priest lives in Clemson. He can't come today because he lives too far away. "

Ellie-Idk #298-
Ross Robinson was giving a presentation about North Hill's Score program for the 5th graders at Brook Glen elementary.
Ross: '...and we also do snacks and play games.'
El: in a very loud whisper 'snacks?! Did he say they had snacks here?!'

Ellie-ism #299-
El- "Can you put on my favorite song?" [Count on Me by Mat Kearney]
Me- "Sure!"
El- "Hey good thing I have my twirly jammies on so I can twirl!"

Ellie-ism #300-
As told by Kevin pertaining to eating lunch on the porch with Ellie, waiting for me to come sit down.
El: "I beat Leslie to this chair, Kev."
Kev: "Oh yea you sure did."
El: "That was a magic trick. I do lots of magic tricks all the time. I love doing magic tricks."
Kev: "What kind of magic tricks do you like doing?"
El: "Oh you know, I play games and win, and I beat people to their seat and trick them. You know, magic tricks."
