I'm Thinking of an Animal...2

Ellie-ism #313:

El: "I'm thinking of an animal that lives in South Carolina and it's really stripey and it has three legs."
Mom: "Is it a bird?"
El: "No mom! Birds have two legs..."
Mom: "Well i don't know what has three legs El!"
El: "Well it has two legs in the front, and three legs in the back. And it lives in South Carolina."
El: "Well, we're getting close to Sherillyn's work so I'll just tell you: It's a Zebra."

Atlanta and Bake Day

Ellie-ism #311

Ellie: "Mom! Somethings wrong with my drink!"
Mom: "What's wrong el?"
Ellie: "My ice keeps doing this!" [swirls cup of water with little pieces of ice]
Mom: "What do you mean?"
Ellie: "My ice keeps going away! It just keeps getting smaller and smaller!"

Ellie-ism #312

Ellie: "Dad, what are we doing today?"
Dad: "Well we're having bake day"
Ellie: "And then what?"
Dad: "And then we're going to eat the fruit of our labor."
Ellie: ".......well......I don't like fruit. I only like vegetables."

From a Day with Mommom

Yesterday was a day full of weddings and Christmas parties. I was in my friend Claire's elegant evening wedding, my parents went to a beautiful morning-in-the-garden wedding and also attended the evening wedding, and my sisters worked for a catering company that was supplying food for a massive all-day Christmas party. Consequentially, Ellie spent the whole day with my grandmother, Mommom. They went shopping and baked cookies and ate at Chick-fil-a and had lots of fun conversation. The ellie-ism of the day, however, came after dinner during popcorn-and-a-movie time. This is the conversation as relayed to me by Mommom:

Ellie: "There's popcorn stuck in my tooth!"
Mommom: "Well use your finger to get it out."
Ellie: "But....my finger can't see where it is!"

Cowgirl Party, About Dad, and others...

So sorry that i've been lax on posting lately! We've had quite a few ellie-isms this past month as you can imagine! I'll recap the latest and most memorable from the list:

Ellie-ism #306

Mom: "You're supposed to dress like a cowgirl!"
Ellie: "Oh is it a cowgirl party?"
Mom: "Yes!"
Ellie: "Oh ok...I'm going to bring my horse because I don't have a cow."

Ellie-ism #307
- At thanksgiving, looking at the name-cards on the table
Ellie: "Who's name is that?"
Shannon: "That says 'Dad'."
Ellie: "Whose dad, your dad or my dad?"
Shannon: "You're dad!"
Ellie: "No! MY dad is the one with GRAY HAIR!!!"

Ellie-ism #308
-every time we pass a cemetery or she plays the piano:
Ellie: "LOOK!!! those flowers would be perfect for your wedding!!"
Ellie: "Did you hear my song? That would be PERFECT to walk to in your wedding! Is it slow enough? Isn't it beautiful?"

I'm Thinking of an Animal...

So tonight between Ellie's bath time and bedtime, we went for a ride in the car. During the trip, she asked if we could play the "I'm Thinking of an Animal" game. These may be my all-time favorite Ellie-isms.

#302-
El: "I'm thinking of an animal......uuummm.....it has no legs, no nose, no restaurants, no lights, no grass, no stripes, it's not a snake or a giraffe or an elephant or a zebra or a tiger because we already talked about those."
Me: "Oh wow....um...is it a skink?"
El: "HA! No it's not a stink! Those spray you and they smell yuuuuucky! That's embarrassing..."

#303-
Me: "I'm thinking of an animal....that's LOOOUUUD and swings around on trees and has looong arms."
El: "...a Cerulla?"
Me: "......................what's a Cerulla?"
El: "You know, a Cerulla. CER-UL-LA. It's like a monkey except it's not loud and it doesn't swing on trees."

#304-
Dad: "...What about a Howler monkey?"
El: "Noooo! I don't like Howling monkeys. They're too loud."
Me: "Why don't you like them?"
El: "I just dont ok?"
Dad: "They sound like this: AAAOOOOOOOO!"
El: "Stop! You're scaring me!"

#305
El: "I'm thinking of an animal that has ears and a nose."
Dad: "......every animal has ears and a nose. Can you give me another hint?"
El: "Just think about it, ok?!"

Daily Ellie-ism

Ellie-ism #301-
El: "Don't hold kevy's hand, Les!!"
Me: "But why El? I love him so I want to hold his hand!"
El: "Just stop it! You're making me grumpy. Can you put on my favorite song?"

Who is Ellie?

Ellie-ism. The word is becoming a common one in my household. How could it not? She's the smartest, funniest, sassiest, shake-my-head-in-amazement four year old I know. But let me start at the beginning.

I asked Elease Chastain to tell me when she was born and how she's grown up. This is our interview:

When were you born?
"On August 17."
Who all was there?
"Aunt Kirsten was there, and also Sydney (because I'm her cousin when I was a baby). Also nanny and pops and mommom and poppop and lorelia and eden."
What was your favorite thing to do when you were a baby?
"Crawl. I also cried. I also ate. I also drank."
What was your favorite toy when you were a baby?
"My froggy bouncey seat."
What was your favorite thing to do when you were 2?
"Play with my sisters. We went camping."
What was your favorite birthday?
"The tinker bell birthday with cookies."
What was your favorite thing to do now that you're four?
"Work and rake leaves and help and clean up and have a snack."
What are your favorite books to read?
"Um Amelia Bedelia and Little Rabbit Foo Foo."
What is your favorite TV show?
"Wonder Pets!"
What is your favorite movie?
"Beauty and the Beast."
What is your favorite season, fall or summer?
"I like summer the best because we get to go in the pool."
If your friend were going to school for the first time, how would you encourage them:
"I would say 'bye'."

And there you have it folks. Ellie's life in a nutshell.
